FIAP HM in section Open mono for photography “The Breakfast“
VINKO ŠEBREK – AFIAP, ESFIAP wrote about photography:
THE ART OF SUBJECTIVE OBSERVATION, PERCEPTION AND PRESENTATION
The awarded photograph “The Breakfast” by Zoltan Bisak intrugued me during the exhibition opening, as well as later, when I saw its copy in the exhibition catalogue. The photograph is truly impressive, inspiring and emotional. It is portraying a specific moment of the author’s impression of a scene during the Covid-19 pandemic, reflecting his creative process, artistic approach and expression. This photograph is, by its nature, an artwork residing between documentary and artistic, objective and subjective photography. With its visual power, it emotionally and inspirationally affects the viewer.
The author, through his creative approach to producing this impressive and intriguing photograph, has shown and proven that alongside a well-chosen and interesting subject, the moment and method of creating images (photographing), as well as the act of shaping (designing) and digitally processing the photograph (post-production), are equally imporant.
Through visual analysis of the award-winning photograph and other selected photographs from the author’s creative body of work, as well as by studying his biography and the description of his artistic approach, we discover the author’s talent, giftedness, and creativity. At the same time, we get to know an inspired and sensitive character with a distinc artistic style. In addition to his creative activities, Zoltan Bisak is also involved in organizational and educational work, successfully sharing his photographic knowledge, experiences, and vision with photography enthusiasts, especially young student from his school and photography club.
In his creative process, Bisak prioritized post-production due to challenging shooting conditions. In the digital rendition of the photograph, he adopted a simple concept – contrast. Primarily the contrast between light and dark (chiaroscuro), the contrast between visual and graphic elemets, as well as the harmony of material and psychological elements of the image on one hand and the subject matter on the other, resulting in not only a visually appealing but also a comprehensibe photographic artwork.
We would also like to share a few author’s thoughts about photography:
The story represents the situation we found ourselves in during the pandemic, the man is alone which reminded me of isolation, the disinfectant which reminded me of the pandemic, the light that highlighted the man, i.e. the life that prevailed. I was delighted by that simplicity. It, in every way, portrays a moment we lived through, and will remain recorded in this photo and in our memories.
Zoltan told us a few words about himself:
I was born on 11th of June in 1981 in Pančevo.
Finished the Secondary school of electrical engineering in Pančevo and Technical faculty of engineering in Zrenjanin afterwards. Currently works as a teacher of craft, draughtsmanship and descriptive geometry in Pančevo.
I’m engaged in creative photography, but also in photography in general, since 2007. Took part in more than 350 collective exhibitions where I was awarded more than 100 prizes and ackowledgement in the country as well as abroad. One of the two founders of the Photo group ’’Dunavac’’ from Ivanovo and head of the group for the last several years. Alongside my activities related to exhibitions, most of my time devoted to photography I spent engaging children (from elementary schools in Pančevo and Ivanovo and the photo group ’’Dunavac’’) aged 10-17 in photo sections.
Bearer of the F1 FSS title in 2014, 2015 and 2018 was on the list of the 10 most successful authors in Serbia. Member of the board of directors of the Photo Association of Serbia (FSS), where I’m in charge of working with young people. In my photographs, people are most often represented in their surroundings, showing their way of life and their occupations. However, regardless of the subject matter, my photographs are not purely documentary in nature, but also creative (some would say artistic) that bear a personal stamp and record moments that disappear. I love to think that I leave an indelible mark of transience with my photographs and hopes to continue doing so for many years to come.
